Here you will find an interview with Sasha and Sarena Nanua, teen authors of The Pendant Trilogy! I loved having the chance to interview these two. Thanks so much to Sasha and Sarena for wanting to be featured on this blog. <3
Q: What is one of the best things about being an author?
A: We love being authors because other younger kids, whether they like writing or not, are inspired to write and take risks just like us! :) It's always great hearing other kids and teens say they're inspired by us.
Q: Has anyone inspired or influenced you to write books?
A: We have a lot of inspirations, but a major writing inspirations is JK Rowling. She's always been a figure to look up to-her success is something we hope to achieve someday, and her story is incredible. Plus, we love Harry Potter!
Q: Did you ever think you would become authors?
A: We have always wanted to be authors-besides that, Sarena has wanted to be a teacher or librarian. But being an author was always a dream of ours ever since we wrote our first book at age nine.
Q: How has book writing changed your life?
A: We have always loved wiring. We wrote our first book at age nine and have been writing ever since (we're 18 now!). Writing is really important to us because it allows us to tell stories that no one else has told. It's changed our lives because it's our creative outlet-we can't imagine a life without books and writing!
Q: What was it like having your first book published?
A: One word: Wow! We are still so awed and proud to have written a complete trilogy at this age, and we're so excited to be published authors alongside so many other wonderful writers!
These authors are AWESOME! And they're Harry Potter fans! I think it's absolutely amazing that they were able to write a trilogy AND get published at their age! This interview makes me feel like I can do anything. :)
I am currently reading Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout and loving it! If you haven't already read White Hot Kiss, the first book in the Dark Elements series, read it now!

Hello bookworms! So I recently did an interview, via e-mail with Elisa Freilich author of SILENT ECHO! Please take the time to read this, her answers are so INSPIRING and AMAZING! Another big thanks to Elisa for taking the time to let me interview her. <virtual hug>
Q: What is one of the best things about being an author?
A: Connecting with readers! I love talking to people about Silent Echo and hearing their feedback. The best is when someone catches a tiny nugget that I planted in book one and predicts that I'm going to expand on that storyline in book two and three. It's so rewarding to know that people were really drawn in and attuned to all the details. I also love hearing people's romantic predictions and preferences for Silent Echo!
Q: Has anyone influenced your writing career?
A: I know that here I'm supposed to list some other writers and I will say that the likes of Pat Conroy and John Green (I know - sooo different) definitely inspired me to want to write. However, my greatest influence was my ninth grade English teacher, Janet Chertkoff. On the first day of class, Mrs. Chertkoff passed around a copy of Eleanor Rigby (by the Beatles) to the class and we analyzed the song as one would poetry. That was a major "Aha" moment for me. Songs as poetry. She made me realize that there's beauty and poetry everywhere we look and I feel privileged to be able to capture even a tiny bit of that in the Silent Echo series.
Q: How did you come up with the title of your book?
A: Portia is silent for the bulk of her formative years and yet she manages to create a ripple effect around her despite her silence. She also embodies a story that has echoed silently within her for thousands of years. And, slight spoiler, in book two she even produces a true "Silent Echo", but you'll need to read Griffin's Call to see that one for yourselves. :)
Q: Did you ever think you would become an author?
When I was a kid, I used to always write poems and I would make my Mom these satirical newspapers for her birthdays and mother's day., poking fun at friends and family (all in good fun, of course - I have wonderful friends and family!). So I always gravitated toward writing. I never would have expected that YA fantasy fiction would have been where I landed, but there is something so liberating about being able to create my own world, invent new powers that the Gods have to master, and, dare I say as the mother of three, getting my characters to do exactly what I want them to do without having to ask twice. ;)
Q: Is there anything specific you would say to your readers?
A: Read. Read anything. From comics to magazine articles to books and even song lyrics. My father, whom I miss so dearly, always used to tell me "Read and study. These are things that nobody can take away from you. You do these things to better yourself, to grow your mind, your capacity for learning, and it's all yours. The greatest gift you can give yourself." He was wise, my dad. And in this day and age of interactivity, I fear that sitting down and digging into a big juicy book could become a lost art form. Don't let it!
Wasn't that great! That last one made me tear up a little it was so beautiful. :,) I hope you enjoyed this little interview with Elisa Freilich. I know I loved getting the chance to interview her! This was so uplifting and I hope it was to you too. For all you book nerds that want to do something big, YOU CAN! You may even end up writing an awesome book like Silent Echo. :)
